Billy has been in the food and wine business for 30 years. She’s cooked and grilled, roasted and baked, serving in restaurants all over the world. Her front of house experience was honed over 8 years in her London Wine Bar – ‘The Square’ in the 90’s.

She has finally called a halt and laid her sharpened Global™ knife on the A29 Stane Street, Five Oaks. “If I have learned anything in the last 30 years whether one is serving bacon butties or celeriac foam (which I’m not), it’s the following:

Newspapers, FREE WiFi and great coffee

If you want to stay locally the Travelodge is located just behind the café – you could almost leap from table to bed so just the place for a snack or three course dinner and no worries about having to drive! We are open early so a perfect start to the day and we will even provide the newspapers.

If you are a local then Billy’s is the place for a breakfast, a mid morning coffee, lunch, tea and cake or early dinner with easy parking that you certainly don’t have to pay for! You may want to ‘play’ with our vintage Hornby train set or browse through our selection of books which you are welcome to borrow – an honesty box system.

Our plastics policy

We are committed to protecting the environment

Here at Billy’s we are committed to reducing single-use plastic waste from our café and to encourage our suppliers and customers to help us in this environmental endeavour.

We pride ourselves on being in the heart of beautiful Sussex countryside and just a short drive to the coast, so we want to protect these environments and the wildlife that inhabits land and sea, for future generations.

In order to do this, we commit to:

• regularly reviewing our plastics use and set targets for reduction.
• work closely with our suppliers to continue to reduce or eliminate plastic packaging from all items being delivered to the café.
• use recycled plastic where practical if the use of plastics is unavoidable.
• Seek and encourage innovative recycling opportunities for the plastic waste we and our customers produce in our café.
• educating our young customers so they can grow up to be fully aware of the damage single-use plastics can do to the environment and the wildlife within it.

Initiatives carried out to date include:

• Ensuring all straws are paper not plastic.
• Rewarding customers 20p off a hot drink if they bring in their own refillable mug.
• Working with suppliers to reduce packaging in their products. For example, all our fruit and vegetables now come in wooden recyclable boxes rather than plastic wrappers or cardboard, and  our daily meat order is delivered in reusable and returnable containers.

All of the team here at Billy’s share the responsibility to reduce single-use plastics in our café and we hope our customers will embrace all initiatives introduced with that aim.
